The first United World Wrestling “Ranking Series” tournament of the year for Greco-Roman kicks off this coming Friday in Croatia.

The Grand Prix Zagreb Open is set to start the points-earning phase of the Olympic Year, which is a task of particular significance for many programs across the globe. That is because the string of continental Olympic qualifying events will utilize ranking points to inform the seeding at each location (limited to four per weight category).

As has been reported numerous times previously, the American roster for the 2024 Grand Prix Zagreb Open is mainly comprised of those athletes who finished in the top-2 at the Nationals/Olympic Trials Qualifier in December.

1st Annual American Open

On January 20-21 will be the American Open at the Erie Sports Center (Erie, PA) with competition available in both the Junior (U20) and Senior divisions. Run by former National-level athlete Chad Vandiver, the tournament aims to provide wrestlers with an opportunity to engage the international disciplines during a time of year in America when folkstyle is the priority. Such an endeavor is, needless to say, rare. Following the event, a three-day training camp held at the facility is also being offered. For more information please see the graphic below.
