The draws for the second and final day of Greco-Roman action at the 2019 CISM World Military Games are available, which means that Daniel Miller (97 kg, Marines) and Toby Erickson (130 kg, Army/WCAP) have their first-round opponents.

Miller opens in the round-of-16 with Kazakhstan’s Islam Umaev, who appeared in the past two Junior World Championships and placed fifth and seventh, respectively. If Miller is successful, he will meet the winner of Davi Albino (BRA) and 2014 World silver Adrian Hassler (GER). Should Miller advance further on into the semifinal, he could have two-time World Champion Musa Evloev (RUS, world no. 1).

Like Miller, Erickson starts off in the round-of-16 where he will first face off against Pavel Rudakov (BLR). 22-year-old Radukov represented Belarus at the Senior Worlds last month, and had previously competed at both the U23 and Junior World Championships earlier in his career, as well. If Erickson defeats Radukov, waiting for him in the quarterfinal will either be the likes of Lenny Berei (ROU) or 2018 Military World bronze Ioannis Kargiotakis (GRE).

Wrestling begins in Wuhan, China at 10:00am local time (+12 hours ET). According to the schedule, Miller is set to go against Umaev at 10:32am, and Erickson/Radukov is slated for 11:36am. Unfortunately, a viable, credible (or safe) live stream of the event is not available in the US.

Update: a previous version of this article stated that Erickson’s quarterfinal opponent would “likely” be four-time World Champion Riza Kayaalp (TUR, world no. 1). In the time since that initial report, the bracket structure changed to accommodate another decorated heavyweight’s entrance into the event, two-time World champ/multi-time World and Military World medalist Heiki Nabi (EST, world no. 2). Erickson will only meet Nabi in a potential semifinal contest.

Notes:

  • Ildar Hafizov (60 kg, Army/WCAP) earned bronze on Wednesday evening after defeating 2018 Junior World silver Tigran Minasyan (ARM). As noted, Hafizov became the first American since Harry Lester in ’15 to earn a CISM World medal (Lester’s also came at a Military World Games event).
  • All four of the American Greco-Roman competitors at the CISM Games this year have earned Senior National titles throughout their respective careers — Hafizov (’15); Ellis Coleman (five-time champ); Miller (’18); and Erickson (’16).
