Sources indicate that well-known Senior competitor Tommy Brackett (87 kg, NYAC) will soon be named the Graduate Assistant under head coach Jason Christenson for Doane University’s new Greco-Roman program.
Brackett, 25, was a US Open finalist in 2021 and a U23 World Team member that same year. Originally from Tennessee, Brackett initially burst onto the Senior circuit in December of ’16 — when he was a mere 17 years of age. At the US Nationals in Las Vegas, he entered in the 80 kg division and earned a decision victory over retired Army athlete Courtney Myers, who had previously been a multiple-time National Team member. The following autumn, Brackett finished second to Andrew Berreyesa (NYAC) at the inaugural U23 World Trials.
In the years since his debut, Brackett has consistently contended in top Senior-level tournaments in addition to having gained significant experience competing overseas. But he has acquired coaching experience, as well. Last year, he coached his younger brother Patrick Brackett en-route to the latter’s victory at the U20 World Team selection tournament. More recently, he has also cornered several of his stablemates from the Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.
Doane University announced the formation of their Greco-Roman team in November. One month later, the school named Jason Christenson as the head coach. Christenson had amassed an exhaustive ledger of impressive accolades throughout his career in the state of Iowa in conjunction with having been involved in Greco-Roman previously both as a competitor and age-group team leader. The Doane University Greco-Roman team is set to launch in time for the beginning of the fall semester. A top-level training camp will also be held at the college later this month.
