The final round of the 2025 Bill Farrell Memorial in New York City began at 5:30pm ET and streamed live on USA Wrestling’s YouTube channel.

Miranda had gotten past Olympic Training Center stablemate (and U23 National champ) Rhett Peak (Checkmate WC) in the semifinal to set up a gold-medal battle against Yerony Liria Carreras (DOM), who earlier in the day had decisioned US Trials runner-up Zane Richards (TMWC/IRTC). It was 1-1 with Liria Carreras ahead on criteria all the way until the latter stages of the bout when confusion took over the proceedings. Miranda capitalized on a passivity call to net two points from a crash gut; but after a reset, Liria Carreras picked up two points of his own from an attempt off the boundary. A prolonged challenge process ensued, and the match eventually continued with less than a minute remaining.

Then, with Miranda pouring in to wrap head-and-arm, Liria Carreras received a warning for hands-to-the-face. Miranda motioned that caution points should be awarded to him, but none were distributed. However, with mere seconds left on the clock, Miranda dashed in on a body attack towards the edge that saw Liria Carreras step out of bounds. The officials confirmed the action as two points for Miranda (step-out plus a one-point caution on Liria Carreras) to make the score 5-5 for the US. Liria Carreras challenged, but the call was upheld and Miranda had his first tournament gold since the ’22 Pan-Am Championships.

Miranda, 28, won his first Bill Farrell Memorial title in ’18 and earned silver at the event in both ’22 and ’23. The highly-decorated United States wrestler figures to be a major player when the World Team selection process unfolds in April.

Crosby & Nutter for NMU

It was a big day for Kenny Crosby (55 kg) and Amryn Nutter (67 kg) as the Northern Michigan duo both earned their first-ever Senior tournament golds on Friday.

Crosby — one of two tournament entrants who last month competed in the U23 World Championships along with fellow Farrell champ Aden Attao (130 kg, NYAC) — downed Troy Almeida (Tiger WC) and William Jakeway to reach the final against longstanding, popular competitor Marat Garipov (BRA). Garipov assumed an early 1-0 passive lead but Crosby struck back with a step-out and takedown to walk into the break up by a score of 4-1. The passives flipped in Period , an opportunity upon which Crosby took advantage by ending the match with a four-point lift.

Nutter, who just begun his tenure at Northern in August, operated within a round-robin bracket and had defeated, in order, Nilton Soto Garcia (PER), Logan Savvy (NYAC), and teammate Maddox Khalimsky. In the 5th round awaited Noah Rice (PA), who himself had a solid day as his young career gets off the ground. Nutter enjoyed a 3-0 margin heading into the second period and, soon enough, Rice was cited for passivity. From top par terre, Nutter looked for a lift but instead settled for a pair of gutwrenches to achieve the score necessary to end matters early.

Braunagel & Attao

A dominant showing ’twas for ’23 World Teamer Zac Braunagel (87 kg, NYAC/Navy WC). Not only did the refined technical brawler win out, he skated through his bracket on the strength of four VSU’s without having surrendered a single point in return. Braunagel faced ’24 Farrell silver Nurzhan Assan (KAZ) in the final and prevailed 8-0. In the tournament, Braunagel outpointed his opposition by a combined score of 34-0.

Attao’s ledger was similar, except that he had one fewer match and recorded a pin. Attao went over Ron Dombkowski (MMWC) and Cameron Groncki (Tiger WC) before trucking Juan Nunez Encarnacion (DOM). Braunagel and Attao competed in round-robin brackets, of which there were four in the event.
