In one of Europe’s most celebrated and competitive annual tournaments, only two Americans this year answered the call, but both wound up short of coming away with medals to bring home.
Day 2 of Thor Masters 2025 began at 10:00am local time from Nykobing Falster, Denmark and streamed live on the event’s website.
Duncan Nelson (67 kg, Air Force/WCAP) and two-time U20 World bronze Aden Attao (Beaver Dam RTC) represented Team USA in Nykobing and the tandem faced off against very stiff opposition.
Nelson got off to a good start by earning wins in his first two bouts. First was a 3-1 decision at the expense of Renat Kryzhko (SWE) and the next was a drubbing of Jonathan Jednell (SWE). Round 3 of the Nordic system format brought Niklas Ohlen (SWE) for Nelson, and the latter managed to score a run of points to take the bout via technical fall. Nelson was still in the mix moving into the fourth round of the event but was felled by Gajik Snjoyan (FRA) to ultimately finish 5th.
As for Attao (who made his Thor Masters debut last year), it was tough sledding in the opening round against Romas Fridrickas (LTU), who prevailed 13-4. He was more on his game in the proceeding match. Facing Marko Milanovic (CRO), Attao came up with the scores he needed to stay in the hunt and emerge with a 7-6 decision. But a shot at top-2 finish would not be made available, for Jacob Logard (SWE) downed Attao in Round 4 of the heavyweight bracket.
