On Saturday, three members of the United States’ All-Marine Wrestling Team earned medals at the 2018 Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid. Both Jamel Johnson (67 kg) and Trent Osnes (130 kg) grabbed silvers while 2018 US National Team member Xavier Johnson (63 kg) scored his third international bronze of the season.

Unfortunately, the live YouTube broadcast of the tournament cut out a substantial portion of the action. Osnes, who in earning his first overseas silver also came up with a pair of big pins via bodylock, was not viewable on Saturday. Neither were most of the matches contested by John Stefanowicz (82 kg), Peyton Walsh (77 kg), or even Jamel Johnson. If their bouts are eventually found, archived, and released by the organization, we will update accordingly. In effort to at least provide a snapshot of the Marine performance at the Spanish Grand Prix, we put together this (very short) video offering Jamel Johnson’s tech win over Italy and German Diaz‘s scoring blitz at the expense of Xavier Johnson.

With the additional hardware courtesy of the Marines, the total number of US Senior medal winners overseas during the 2017-18 season rises to 31. The updated list is as follows:

Fargo Week 2018

Age-group Greco-Roman takes over the landscape later on this week with the 2018 US Cadet and Junior Nationals in Fargo, North Dakota set to begin Wednesday morning. The annual mega-event, more than anything else, serves as an invaluable promotional tool for domestic Greco participation. It also tends to offer a rite of passage for those who eventually continue on at the Senior level. Since mostly everyone competes or has competed at Fargo throughout their developmental careers there is a lot of traceability available to be acknowledged, and we will do just that tomorrow.

Also coming your way:
– A special Q&A with two-time Fargo winner — and U23 World Team/Senior National Team member Dalton Duffield (55 kg, NMU/OTS).
– Post-finals recaps of the Cadets and Juniors.
