The United States Greco-Roman Senior program is currently amid their annual “January Camp” at the Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs — and when that gathering comes to a close, many of the athletes involved will hop on a flight to Croatia for the Grand Prix of Zagreb “Ranking Series” tournament (as well as another training camp).
As for the event roster, every name is a prominent one. Eight of the 13 American athletes who are listed to compete in Zagreb is a multiple-time US World Team member — including recognizable faces such as Dalton Roberts (60 kg, Army/WCAP), Ildar Hafizov (63 kg, Army/WCAP), Benji Peak (72 kg, Combat WC), and Spencer Woods (87 kg, Army/WCAP). Another numerical note: eight of the 13 USA entrants boast prior Zagreb GP experience.
New to the tournament for the US will be National Team member Max Black (60 kg, NMU/NTS) and his younger brother, ’24 U20 World silver Otto Black (63 kg, CTT/Hawkeye WC), ’21 World Team member Jesse Porter (82 kg, NYAC), ’24 U23 World silver Beka Melelashvili (82 kg, NYAC), and Courtney Denzel Freeman (130 kg, Marines).
