Tokyo Olympian Alex Sancho (72 kg, Army/WCAP) is one match away from clinching his second-straight continental championships gold while Michial Foy (97 kg, Army/WCAP) has a chance for bronze despite a rough start to the tournament.
Day 2 of the 2025 Pan-American Championships began at 10:00am local time from Monterrey, Mexico (12:00pm ET) and is streaming live on FLOWrestling.
Multi-time World Teamer Sancho has been razor-sharp throughout his time on the mat today, so much so that he has gone untouched. Three matches with three VSU shutouts is the statline for the popular Miami native and he will head into the final round against an opponent whom he has already defeated on Friday — Nilton Soto Garcia (PER). Sancho blitzed Soto Garcia in Round 3 of his pooled bracket by a score of 9-0.
The strong and talented Foy was felled by ’23 World Champion Gabriel Rosillo Kindelan (CUB) in his first bout before also losing to Argentina’s Ricardo Gomez by decision in the second round. What that meant was simple to discern: entering Round 3, Foy had to win in order to stay alive in the medal hunt. Which, he did. Foy used par terre to his advantage and turned Luillys Perez Mora (VEN) to go up 3-0 and hit a nice body attack to takedown in the second period for a 6-1 victory that sent him to the bracket’s semifinal. He was ousted there by uber-experienced Kevin Mejia Castillo (HON) but the opportunity remains for Foy to depart from Monterrey with bronze. His medal match will pit him against Dorian Trejo Olguin of Mexico.
The final round of Greco-Roman at the 2025 Pan-American Championships is scheduled for 8:00pm local time/6:00pm ET and can be viewed live on FLOWrestling.
USA Wins Pan-Ams
Although the tournament is still in-session, the USA has already claimed the team title. In fact, they had secured the overall victory following action on Friday. Currently, the US leads second-place Mexico 169 to 116; should Sancho prevail in the final and Foy come away with bronze, that total will balloon to 209 for the Americans.
