It has taken a little while, but G’Angelo Hancock (97 kg, Sunkist) is finally back.

Hancock, along with Morgan Flaherty (67 kg, NYAC) and two-time Junior World Team member Kevin Beazley (97 kg, Cliff Keen WC), will be competing at the Matteo Pellicone Memorial in Sassari City, Italy this weekend (Friday and Saturday). Hancock, 20, is entering an event for the first time since December, when he scored back-to-back golds at the Lavrikov Memorial in Russia and Finland’s Haavisto Cup, respectively. The five-month break between tournaments represents the longest of the Coloradan’s career thus far.

Beazley, too, is coming off of a Greco-Roman hiatus, only a much longer one. A World Team Trials runner-up to Caylor Williams in 2015, Beazley went on to All-American at the NCAA Division I National Championships in 2017 for Old Dominion. After finishing up his degree, he then hopped over to the University of Michigan as a graduate transfer. Unfortunately, an elbow injury cut his season short right before the NCAA tournament this past March. Assuming Beazley is locked into Greco from here on out, 97 kilograms becomes an even more interesting place to be than it already was.

The Matteo Pellicone Memorial covers three age groups — Cadet, Junior, and Senior — and runs through the weekend. Fans interested in viewing the tournament live online can do so on YouTube. Below is a video promoting the event (in Italian).
