On Day 1 at the 2025 Polyak Imre Memorial in Budapest, Hungary, only three weight categories were contested: 72, 87, and 130 kg. That means Day 2 will involve the remaining seven weight divisions as well as a more robust US presence in the tournament.
Whereas Saturday saw five Americans compete (two of whom are ’25 World Teamers, Payton Jacobson and Cohlton Schultz, Sunday has nine more scheduled to suit up — including six World Team members. They are:
55 kg: Jayden Raney (NYAC)
60 kg: Max Black (NYAC/NTS)
63 kg: Ellis Coleman (Army/WCAP)
67 kg: Alston Nutter (Army/WCAP)
77 kg: Kamal Bey (Army/WCAP)
82 kg: Beka Melelashvili (NYAC)
In addition, the US is sending to the mat the Koontz twins, Brady (55 kg, TMWC/Dubuque RTC) and Dylan (60 kg, TMWC/Dubuque RTC), and Otto Black (67 kg, NYAC/NTS).
Because the Polyak Imre Memorial is the last “Ranking Series” event leading up to the World Championships in September, there is an allotment of top competitors who are participating. This obviously makes for challenging match-ups across the board, which is what the Americans are seeking as the summer training block begins to intensify.
