There is a lot of activity taking place this week and it involves three American Greco-Roman World Teams.

Members of the 2019 Cadet World Team converged on the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs on Saturday as they get some work in before they set sail for Bulgaria at the end of the month. When camp breaks on Wednesday, it is expected that several of the athletes will then make their respective ways to Fargo, North Dakota in advance of the Cadet and Junior National Championships.

Greco-Roman at the 2019 Cadet World Championships begins on August 2nd from Sofia, Bulgaria.

Thursday is when the Seniors will arrive in Springs for their Pan American Games training camp. Actual practice sessions are slated to begin on Friday and we will be releasing the full itinerary later in the week. As has been reported numerous times, the delegation of athletes representing the United States at the Pan Am Games (set to kick off on August 7th from Lima, Peru) will be the six World Team members who occupy the Olympic weight classes.

Juniors Traveling to Europe

Finland to be exact.

2019 Junior World Team coach Nate Engel will be taking a contingent of Junior athletes to Kourtane, Finland this week  — Dylan Ragusin (55 kg, Izzy Style), Tyler Eischens (72 kg, CARTC), Jack Ervien (77 kg, Takedown Express), and Zac Braunagel (82 kg, IRTC). Tommy Dantzler (82 kg, Front Range Twisters/OTC) is also coming along for the ride. The prescription is a series of duals with teams from in and around the Nordic region as well as a joint training camp. We are aiming to provide results/insights from Finland as they develop throughout the weekend.

Koontz/Cronin Finalized

The wrestle-off date and venue for the 2019 U23 World Team spot at 55 kilograms had been rumored for weeks and began to take on the air of a badly-kept secret — but now it is official. Trials champ Liam Cronin (Indiana) and Final X runner-up Brady Koontz (TMWC/Ohio RTC) will battle it out on Thursday, July 18th in Fargo, North Dakota. To be specific, the three-match series will be contested on the same day Cadet Greco is finishing up and Junior Greco is getting started inside the Fargodome.

Cronin won the U23 World Team Trials last month in Akron, Ohio by sweeping 2017 Junior World silver medalist Cevion Severado (MO) by scores of 5-0 and 3-0, respectively. Koontz, who was on the Junior World Team last year, did not compete at the U23 Trials but is eligible for the wrestle-off due to his accomplishments this season at Senior, namely winning the World Team Trials Challenge Tournament.
